§ 2.64.030. Definitions.

  • As used in these sections relative to the historic preservation board, the following terms shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates that a different meaning is intended:

    "Alteration" means any change to the exterior of a building that modifies its structural appearance. This shall not be construed to include painting or cleaning.

    "Board" means the duly appointed members of the historic preservation board.

    "Chairperson" means the presiding officer of the board.

    "Demolition" means the removal of a building or structure, or a portion thereof, or removing or destroying significant architectural elements of the exterior of a building or structure. Demolition does not include routine maintenance, simple repairs, painting, cleaning or the replacement or repair of existing features using similar or like materials.

    "Historic character" means having special historical, architectural, cultural, archeological or other value to the community.

    "Historic district" means an area designated as conveying a sense of time and place due to the historic and architectural merits of the area, inclusive of architectural and landscape features.

    "Improvements" means any manmade structure, building, feature or landscape.

    "Landmark" means a structure, building, site or feature designated as having architectural, historical or cultural significance.

    "List of contributing structures" or "contributing structures list" means the list of historic structures maintained by the city's planning department and ratified by the governing body pursuant to Section 2.64.060(J) of this chapter.

    "Moving" means the moving of a building or structure pursuant to Chapter 15.44 of city code.

    "National Register of Historic Places" means the list of significant districts, buildings, structures, sites and objects kept by the U.S. Department of Interior.

    "Significant" means having architectural and historical characteristics that make the building, structure, feature or area worthy of preservation.
