§ 2.08.010. Appointment and term—Removal—Vacancy.

  • A.

    At the first regular meeting of the governing body in the official year following the city election, or at such other times as needed to fill an appointed position set forth in this section, there shall be appointed by the mayor, by and with the consent of the city council, the following officers: city clerk, city treasurer, city engineer, city attorney, fire chief, police chief, judge of the municipal court, judge of the juvenile court, public works director, planning and development director, support services director, community recreation and events director, and such other officers and employees as are necessary for the efficient operation of the city.

    B.

    Each officer appointed pursuant to subsection 2.28.010(A), shall hold office for a term of two years, provided however, that the specific beginning and ending dates of the term of appointment shall be specified in the certificate of appointment.

    C.

    The mayor may remove any appointed officer for incompetency or neglect of duty.

    D.

    If a vacancy occurs in any appointed office for any reason, the new appointment shall be only for a period to complete the unexpired term of that officer.
